A downloadable game

About

Life of Fly is a submission for the IGA x Unity Game Jam.

Have your ever wondered what it felt like to be a fly on the wall? Now you can be a fly on a potato! Play as a garden fly named Starchy and eat as many potatoes as possible to produce the next generation of Flies. Dodge obstacles and eat different potatoes to ensure the survival of your lineage.

Game Download

Due to unfortunate technical difficulties, we were not able to submit the web build to Itch. While we know this will likely prevent us from partaking in the voting, we still want people to be able to experience it. For now, it will  be available as a Windows executable download and a playable browser version. This section will be deleted once voting ends.

Known Bugs

Occasionally, upon reaching the end of the level, the player will continue to fly down and go off screen, causing nothing else to be able to happen. To solve this, close the game (alt+f4) and retry (we're sorry for the inconvenience :/).

When quitting to the main menu, the audio will overlay itself. This can be solved be closing and re-opening the game.

How to Play

Use WASD to move Fly around in order to dodge incoming obstacles and eat incoming potatoes.

Regular potatoes vary in size, and give you more or less food depending. Size also affects how long it takes to eat. Golden potatoes take longer to eat, but yield more food. Sweet potatoes/yams can be eaten faster, and provide an eating speed buff. (and a special color upgrade :) Poisonous potatoes give food but take longer to eat and deal damage, while smiley potatoes give no food but restore health.

You have until the end of the level to eat enough potatoes or you die and must start over. If you eat enough, you lay an egg and can invest an evolution point into either health, movement speed, or eating speed. Beware though, for each two points invested into one, cost one point for another (Health costs eating speed, eating speed costs movement speed, movement speed costs health). (once you maxed out a stat you cannot slect it.}

The levels get more difficult the longer you survive, so good luck and evolve wisely.

I was really impressed by this. The gameplay felt very smooth and there's a lot going on, plus the art and sound were extremely well done (nice color palette). I made it 10 rounds!

I love the art, the music and the gameplay being that you have to choose between eating smaller portions so you can smoothly keep on moving or risk eating large potatoes which take longer to consume but yields more points to complete the challenge. Great job!

thank you for playing!
